Today's beautiful chandelier pieces are far removed from the ancient candle holders of the medieval castle. Such usefulness had a purpose in the age of knights and feudal vassals; today's chandeliers communicate an entire different message "art prestige and a symbol of wealth and status". Whether traditional or contemporary the chandelier light illuminates today's' more social and gregarious homeowner. Our European ancestors would never have imagined the framework of the chandelier would distinguish entire rooms separate floor plans and offer beauty all while providing the warmth and beauty of light.
It is an unfortunate fact though that not all people would have the funds to purchase genuine antique chandeliers. The better option would be the more affordable antique-style chandeliers pictures of which you can find on the various lamp and lighting websites on the Internet. An economical option is antique-finish brass plated wrought iron chandeliers. You also have the Bronze D'Ore which is patterned after the lighting fixtures used in the castles of King Louis XVI and the 19th century Neo Classical chandeliers. The Sea Scallop Iris 3- or 5-armed Piemont and Rose Bush are other excellent choices. These antique-style chandeliers range between a low of $200 to a high of $500.
This month the 2500 pound chandelier that consists of 33000 crystals was lowered from the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee for its annual cleaning. The chandelier is the centerpiece of the theatre and visitors are often more captivated by it than by whatever performance is going on at the theater. According to Sandra Wickler one of the volunteers cleaning the chandelier who also serves as an usher "It's amazing. When I usher here the people who come in who have been here just go 'wow' and they're snapping [cameras] away and I'm like 'yes!'" Several volunteers are helping to clean the chandelier by polishing each of the 33000 crystals by hand. Those volunteering for the two-day cleaning project each year say that they enjoy making the chandelier shine as it was intended to.
If you think you might prefer a real candle chandelier (and who could blame you?) you will face a wide selection of outstanding designs to suit any taste. Arguably the most beautiful of all candle chandeliers are those made of glass or crystal. However these require a great deal of maintenance and attention to ensure that the candles do not tarnish the beauty of the piece. (It should be noted here that candle wax should be cleaned from any holder regardless of type). Another consideration of these elegant chandeliers is that they tend to be more expensive than those made of metals (bronze wrought iron etc.) but they certainly add an amazing effect to any room in your home.
